I started this blog to have a discussion about mid-century modern and vintage furniture and products. I came across this wonderful photo from the 1960's, it was published in Playboy magazine. The photo features the genius designers of the century when it comes to modern furniture. Each designer sits on his own creation, in order are: Gerorge Nelson, Edward Wormley, Eero Saarinen, Harry Bertoria, Charles Eames, Jens Risom from July 1961, PlayBoy magazine. From the (Saarinen) Womb chair to the iconic school chair (Eames), we should celebrate their genius, they have changed our everyday lives with their innovation. From clean lines and use of new products of their age (Eames- molded plywood chair or molded fiberglass),they have led us on a modern journey. For over 50 years their furniture is valued and desired, we covet and copy their work. Their designs are still valid today. I have recently had some house guests, my cousin, Linda, and her husband from Iowa. Linda and Ron sell vintage and resale in their state, but not on Etsy. They do the craft fair, flea market, set up booth and sell at farmers markets. We both sell vintage just in a different venue. It occurred to me as we were out at thrift stores, shopping for bargains, and how differently we shop. She looks for old farm, primitive, antiques and I look for mid-century modern. She is drawn to old and rusty and I am looking for sleek, clean lines of Danish modern, Italian Pottery or any shiny-metal. Here is a picture of me when I visited her (Linda) in Iowa. I have sold a wonderful Mad Men type Martini Shaker that will be used in a play . Potentially it will be in a Tennessee Williams play called THE MILK TRAIN DOESN"T COME HERE ANYMORE at the Roundabout Theatre Company starring Olympia Dukakis . That is very exciting from a vintage point of view.  We at RetroBabs always hope our wares are recycled and enjoyed by others as much as we love them.
