Adrien Art - Painting, Sculpture and Pottery by Adrien Miller

I would like to feature a wonderful artist today. Adrien Miller is a potter, a painter and a sculptor. He is a visual artist and creates pottery and paintings of the human form. His studio is based in Seattle and is a member of the Etsy Recyclers Guild Team, as am I.

I randomly chose his sculpture in a Treasury before I actually began talking to him for this interview. I liked his art as soon as I first set eyes on it! His sculpture is the lovely torso in the top row of the Treasury below.

Visit his Etsy shop, ADRIEN ART at

His shop is filled with fantastic pottery, vessels bearing faces, torsos on tea pots and paintings of the human body. It is surely a magical place!

I asked Adrien some questions about his Etsy experience.

When and why did you start selling on Etsy?

"I opened my Etsy shop on November 10th, 2009. I needed to do it. I make art with most of my time, and I was having an issue with not minding the business side of my art practice, so my work was piling up and literally getting in the way of my progress. I needed a way to make my work available for sale, yet still allow for long hours in the studio. Etsy has helped me achieve that."

Adrien uses recycled clay in his works of art. I asked him to explain "recycled clay" and what that entails.

"All the clay I use is recycled. What that means is I take clay scraps that would be destined to go to the dump, I wet it, mix it, and wedge it back into workable clay and make things from it. Most clay studios have things called re-claim buckets where people toss their left over dried chunks, trimmings and scraps of clay. They are often over flowing, and that clay gets dumped if no one reclaims it. It takes a bit of labor, but I really enjoy mixing it back to life, I get to build a relationship with that clay and get to know it really well before I even make anything with it. "

Did you know that I picked your sculpture for a treasury?(see above)

"I enjoyed the treasury you featured my sculpture in. I'm always totally surprised by the variety of work that people manifest in the recyclers guild."

Do you have any Etsy advise?

"Etsy Advice? I think posting and/or renewing one item or more every day has been working well for me. Making that a habit makes your shop easier to find."

What is your favorite thing about Etsy?

"I don't know if I have one favorite thing about Etsy, but I certainly love the fact that my art is being dispersed to wonderful and appreciative people around the world. I am able to share my creative gifts through Etsy with people I don't know I'd ever meet otherwise. Art is a way for me to make love visible, and share that with others. I'm grateful that Etsy has given me another venue to offer that gift to the world."

Adrien and I are both proud members of the Etsy Recyclers Guild Team. We create art from recycled items. Our team believes in a green world and creating a smaller carbon footprint for the future.
