One lucky RetroBabs patron scooped up this fabulous, manual typewriter  -just in time for New Years.  I love the story behind this vintage SCORE:   It was their first wedding anniversary which is PAPER.  The typewriter was given to the new spouse -who happens to be a writer.  He is currently working on a novel and she wanted him to experience what it was like to TYPE IT OUT.  Now that is a gift of love!  Congrats and Happy Anniversary! Keep those stories coming folks because I am a sucker for romance. Here are my New Years Resolutions for 2012: 1. Be grateful- give thanks to God and be thankful for the folks I meet on Etsy.  Write notes, cards , letters, show your thankfulness. 2. Make one piece of pottery on my potters wheel at least once per week. 3. Draw in my sketch book at least once per week. 4. Sign up to be in next years Sketchbook Project . 5. This week one of our clock plates is being given as a birthday present.  This is the mid century modern plate that we ReMixed.  Now that makes me proud!!!   Mid Century Modern Shelf     Reuse, recycle, reduce. We (Bec and Babs) really do live by these ideas. Some folks (if not a lot) think we are tightwads because we are the way we are!   Mother Earth, we say, it’s for Mother Earth.     Bec was married in the summer of 2010. With her direction we pulled off a beautiful and unique do-it-yourself outdoor wedding and reception. While we utilized numerous clever ideas, we're most proud of this one.   Instead of renting a dance floor for $330, my husband, Len, purchased nine ¾” plywood sheets to create one. These cost about $225.  Wood strips were used underneath at the joints to secure the sheets together. These were cut from odd scraps he had saved. The surface was coated with leftover polyurethane that someone had given me. Cost was still at $225. This set up was partially assembled in our backyard to ensure it was suitable as a dance surface. It settled nicely into the grass and ¾...

I wanted to give a shout out to Cindy at RetroChalet , she is what I call my "Wifey" and our two shops are "married" in spirit.  She is my Etsy mentor. Cindy has been so helpful to me, she's always ready to comment and critique the RetroBabs Vintage shop. Recently, we has a discussion about Titles and Tagging of items on Etsy. I had this item titled as a Red Apple Canister but Cindy came up with 20 other ideas for the title and tags.  Red Delicious and Cookie Jar to be the few that were excellent.  Her take on the issue was the fact that the more "HITS" one gets for an item -the greater the chance for a sale.  The Canister and Cookie jar folks might also include an apple collector and a lover of vintage.  The more ground you cover the more people you can reach. I have been considering doing a give away in the shop.  I think this blog site is a perfect example of what I strive for: Indie Style Guide blog has the right idea.  Give away a, "beautiful item" and ,"they will come".
