Vesties Team-New Local Chapter

Image
Back in March, I had a Meet Up at my home for the Vesties team.  This team is the Vintage Etsy Street Society Team with Martha from Open Door Studio as our fearless leader.  Martha is starting a new local chapter for all us folks in the Chicagoland area. http://www.etsy.com/teams/9520/vintage-etsy-society-of-chicagoland It was a pleasure visiting with Julia of Basya Berkman and Lisa for A Blast From The Past , as well as Martha at our last meet up. Lisa and Julia have teamed up since then and collaborated on a professional photo shoot.  Julia with her vintage clothing and Lisa with her wonderful vintage recreated jewelry.   I bet it was a great team effort! Come and join the team or our local chapter if you are an Etsy member and live near Chicago.

We are featured in a blog post

Hello Etsy Fans I wanted to let you know that RetroBabs was featured in an article blog post on the Etsy Recyclers Guild Team .  I felt so honored to be asked to do an interview.  The questions asked were very insightful and I had to think carefully about my answers.  They asked why I got into Etsy? I found out about Etsy because Bec kept sending me there to purchase and look for items for her wedding.  Then I realized they had vintage items and I was hooked !  At first I got into Etsy/RetroBabs to do a project with my daughter, Bec. Now, I think we stay in it because we have made such good friends and communicated with customers all over the world, from Japan to England!  Our love of vintage transfers to others who collect and love it as much as we do.   ( here is our ReMix Clock Plate ) ( Our ReMix vintage box with an original watercolor by Babs )   The article was written by Cindy at RetroChalet and we think she did a wond...

Back from vacation

Image
Hello Etsy Fans, I am back from vacation and the visit with the grand babies.  Best time ever in California!! Here is Miles Henry: Here is Penelope Jay: They are the lights of my life! The shop is back online and I plan on adding many new items soon.  I have decided to re-vamp my photo process.  This has been taking some time.  I am doing more than just adjusting the exposure and editing.   I want to take better photos to enhance the items I have for sale. I would like to thank my customers who have taken their time and given me feedback on Etsy.  Folks have written letters, sent photos, paid it forward and even sent me a personal gift!  I really appreciate all the kudos and the 57 positive reviews.

Friends and Family

I have recently had some house guests, my cousin, Linda, and her husband from Iowa. Linda and Ron sell vintage and resale in their state, but not on Etsy. They do the craft fair, flea market, set up booth and sell at farmers markets. We both sell vintage just in a different venue. It occurred to me as we were out at thrift stores, shopping for bargains, and how differently we shop. She looks for old farm, primitive, antiques and I look for mid-century modern. She is drawn to old and rusty and I am looking for sleek, clean lines of Danish modern, Italian Pottery or any shiny-metal. Here is a picture of me when I visited her (Linda) in Iowa. Ah the corn belt, ah the farms, ah tractors, I can hear the theme song from Green Acres! How do you like that giant ear of corn? I collect pictures of myself on all vacations and give the photos to ,Bec, who loves "BIG" things. It is amazing how many Giant sculptures and such are along the highways of the USA. Take a road tri...

I went to a Garden Party

Image
I made a Treasury on Etsy for a Vesties Team Challenge. It is a fun collection of white garden items, some are vintage and some handmade. I love using vintage items in the garden as sculpture, as planters and as shabby chic junk decor. Our team gives us a weekly challenge to make a treasury list off a theme they designate. I think I captured this weeks challenge beautifully if I do say so myself! Here in my own garden I use structure and art to enhance my garden. A blue morning glory trails up a post. A handmade votive lantern designed with wire and beads. Bec's wedding was a great garden Party. As far as garden structure we used a recycled trampoline frame for the wedding Chuppa/Gazebo that they were married under. Let me know what vintage items or recycled products you use in your garden. I would love to hear from you.

New Item, ReMix by Bec

Image
Here is a new item to be listed soon.  Bec is trying something different with her ReMix.  She made this lovely baby bib out of Vintage fabric.  It reminds me of the Wonder Bread pattern of dots.  The fabric is polyester so it is resistant to stains and spills, just what a busy Mom needs. It has a nifty Velcro closure and is plain orange on the back side. It will be listed soon, this is just a preview for you RetroBabs fans.

RetroBabs Vintage and Remix is honored to be included in a great article about Upcycled Clocks.  In  the Etsy shop together with my daughter, Bec, we make ReMixed, Upcycled and Repurposed art work. Bec works on vintage fabric and I make Clocks out of Mid-Century modern Plates. We are very excited to be featured in the Handmadeology blog.  We love Tim and we are proud to be members of his team on Etsy.   We were so surprised when we went to our daily list of blog readings to find ourselves in a post from Cindy at RetroChalet about Upcycled clocks! The clock above is the Swiss Chalet pattern by Marcrest. This is the clock/plate featured in the article, Check it out -full article at RetroChalet's post!
